Tuesday 18th February was just an ordinary day in the life of the community.
But....just to give you a flavour of how much work some of our members put in on your behalf, this is how Jocelyn Shepherd our Chair of Council spent her day.
She arrived at the synagogue at 10.00am. Spent some time dealing with the company that services our fire extinguishers. She then spent some considerable amount of time with Krypto who were in to service the alarm system and install Red Care.
After this she saw Bernie from BD Glass getting estimates for some new windows and doors for the Cheder Block.
Once Bernie had gone she spent some time with the Administrator discussing a number of urgent issues regarding general run of the mill shul matters, dealing with a complaint from a member and organising new alarm fobs. She left the synagogue at 2.30pm
She then went home and phoned BT in order to get one of the phone lines disconnected as a result of the Red Care installation also to organise paperless billing. Both in order to save the synagogue money. This took a mammoth 3 hours and was still not properly resolved.
She then had a telephone conversation with Student Rabbi Larry Becker regarding further work in the community. Her synagogue day ended at 6.50 pm.
She had a relatively quiet day on the Wednesday only to be back in the shul on Thursday 20th in order to help set up for the Bat Mitzvah on the following Saturday and to help Frank Godson make tea for his 50 or so visitors.
Later on in the day there was the small matter of collecting the flowers for the day.
The rest of the week was no better.
