Sukkat Shalom Reform Synagogue

Over 160 young people were honoured for their contributions to Reform Jewish life, community and society at the second Community Youth Awards Reception.

Held on Sunday 6th December at Edgware and District Reform Synagogue in front of an audience of over 250 people, the Reception honoured the winners of both the Jack Petchey Awards and Massuot Community Youth Awards.

The event was opened by 17 year old Mike Perham who earlier this year completed his solo circumnavigation of the world becoming the youngest person to do so. He is now hoping to raise £24,000 for two charities, the Tall Ships Youth Trust and Save the Children. The Reform Movement’s Youth and Community Worker commented that Mike is a superb example of what young people can achieve given the right support and encouragement noting that his inspirational and motivational story was enthusiastically received.

The Jack Petchey Grants Officer for the Reform Movement, Nikki Bush, introduced the Awards with a film about the work of the Jack Petchey Foundation. The Foundation gives the Reform Movement nearly £20,000 to distribute amongst the 87 Jack Petchey Award winners from 13 synagogues in London and Essex. The winners from each synagogue were presented with their medallions by Mike Perham.
