Open House - London - General Information

The Open House London event is fully inclusive and admission is free for all Open House London events each September. You will need to find out which buildings are opening / walks and talks planned in order to plan your visits. Get hold of a copy of the printed programme (available in August each year) or check out the website search facility which will go live on 9 August in 2010. Pre-booking also opens on this day. Along with a brief description and the name of the architect, each building’s entry in the Guide or in the website search facility will contain its address, opening days and hours, access to visitors, pre-booking details where relevant, amenities and transport.

Sukkat Shalom Reform Synagogue’s building will open on Sunday 19th September 2010

For all the ways to get hold of the programme see here

Q: What will I find when I get to the buildings?
A: At many of the 700 sites, there will be someone to show you around and answer your questions. These are the Open House guides and stewards, and there are thousands of them – some professional, some amateur enthusiast, all volunteering their time and knowledge. In recognition of their role their badge enables them to gain priority access to buildings apart from those that are pre-booking only. For information about volunteering in 2010, please email
volunteers@openhouse.org.uk
Q. Will I get to meet any of the architects?
A. Look out for the entries coded as having architects on site; it means that architects will be giving talks and tours of some of the buildings they’ve designed. There are a staggering 1600 tours being given by architects this year in total. Sometimes you will also find the practice director on site. Also, some of their studios/offices will be open, so that you can see the projects they’re working on. Don’t forget to look out for the factsheets too which will be available at most buildings.

Q. Do I need to book?
A. Entry to a few of the properties will require you to book in advance. Where this is through the building contact details are given. Bookings administered by Open House are indicated. These have to be made via our website from 9 August only, go to the search pages, look for your building using the search criteria, go into the detail page and click on the Pre-book link and select your preferred tour time and number of places, subject to availability, enter the contact details and submit. You will then be sent an email confirmation which includes a link to release your booking if you find you can no longer attend. Spaces are limited and are on a strictly first come, first served basis. Open House regrets that we cannot guarantee availability of places. As places on these tours are restricted please ensure that you attend. If you don't cancel and don't attend, you may be blacklisted from future Open House event bookings.

NOTE: online pre-booking is only open from 9 August 2010– 15 September unless otherwise stated.
