Sukkat Shalom Reform Synagogue

It is hoped that I meet up with all new members when they have joined the community or whilst the joining process takes place. When members transfer from another Reform Community this is not always neccessary. As you will know by now we had a large number of members transfer from South West Essex & Settlement Reform Synagogue during last Summer. One of those members was Ruth Haslett the daughter of Manny Maran a long time member of SWESRS. It was very difficult to meet with her as she has lived in Hong Kong for the last 11 years. As Reeva and I were visiting Hong Kong on our way to Australia in February I contacted Ruth and suggested that we meet for a coffee and a chat. She was happy to do this and we met on Hong Kong Island. it was a nice meeting and hopefully Ruth will visit London soon and be able to come to see us at the shul. I will write to Ruth once I am back in the UK and ask her to write an article for the Shema about her life in Hong Kong.
