On Sunday January 29th after 18 months of hard work studying at the Sternberg Centre Jodie Tiller, Daniel Bhattachya and Bryony Bathe have passed their Foundation Course for Religion School Teachers, and received their certification.
They successfully complete their observed, teaching assessments in the class room and their coursework.
It was a proud moment for their families and for our Synagogue when they were presented with their qualification today at the Sternberg Centre.
For some students, gap years can be seen as a way of wasting time, a way to delay going to university or a way of extending your childhood for a little while longer. For other students, like myself, a gap year is used as a way of growing up, for gaining maturity, for seeking the independence that is required for going to university and for being able to fend for yourself. Also as preparation for life without the need of your parents.
Young People Shine at RSY-Netzer's Youth Awards Ceremony.
More than 250 people from across the Reform Movement for the Community Youth Awards
Reception, honouring Jack Petchey Award winners and Massuot nominees and finalists. The
event was hosted by Shaarei Tsedek North London Reform Synagogue.
Reception participants were warmly greeted by RSY-Netzer and then had the opportunity to
mingle with our wonderful sponsors. The audience of winners, nominees, friends, parents,

from Wimbledon. This was followed by RSY-Netzer movement worker Richard
I joined Council in November and have taken on board the responsibility for being the Jack Petchey Co-ordinator. For those unfamiliar with this award I thought it useful to give some information about the award scheme which is a recognition of the achievements of young people. The synagogue has Silver membership of the ‘Jack Petchey’ scheme which means that we can nominate 6 children (usually from Cheder) to gain the award.

Daniel Bhattacharya
In June Daniel was the recipient of an award with the money to be spent on musical equipment.
Daniel is a responsible, willing and confident young man, who shares his musical talents with the Cheder students in his own exciting and energetic fashion, which encourages all to participate.
This ability to encourage others really comes to the fore when working one to one with older students new to Cheder, who have little or no Hebrew. Here, his work shows a maturity beyond his years, something he can be very proud of.

Shalom! I am an American from California spending my gap year before university living in London. I live by myself in Leyton, but work as a teacher’s aide and sports coach at Sir William Burrough Primary School in Limehouse. Although my parents did not raise me religious, my brother has recently come to better appreciate the importance of our Jewish heritage and has been encouraging me to find a synagogue, or at least a Jewish youth organization, while I am in London.
